A former Pink Girl evolved into a straight up Lady. It seems only appropriate to introduce Mother Daughter Jewelry. Heather Tanton creator/designer of Mother Daughter Jewelry gives us a small taste of her pure "coolness!"
With a mix of natural elements and an incredible aesthetic,
we had to sit down and have a little Q&A with this Richmond cutie.
What inspired Mother Daughter Jewelry?
My mom is the reason I started making jewelry. She convinced me to take a couple of beading and wire work classes with her one summer. I remember being hesitant and saying "mom, everyone is making jewelry", but I got really hooked on it, and continued to try different techniques in my spare time. I got into metal work when I was living in N.Y. and sharing a studio with Rebecca Haas. She taught me a ton. My mom encouraged me to to start selling my pieces--convinced me they were good enough to sell. And we enjoyed working on designs together. My mom and I have a pretty tight bond. That is the reason I called it Mother Daughter Jewelry.
What makes you feel sexy?
I guess I feel sexiest when I'm dressed up for a night out on the town. Having a tan and wearing heels usually does it! I find a sense of humor and a good sense of style sexy in others.
What are your summer must haves?
I am addicted to gel manicures pretty much all year round, but especially in summer. Every summer I stock up on easy to throw on dresses and t-shirts that can be layered with jackets for work. Brands like Monrow, Daft Bird and Alexander Wang are favorites.
What is you fav place in Richmond?
My favorite place is at home with my husband. I travel so much for my work that being at home is a luxury. Working in my garden or sitting on our porch drinking a glass of wine--to me it doesn't get much better.
What is the best advice you have ever received?
Do not fear or worry about what you can't control.
Your super stylish...what would you call your personal style?
My style is kind of a mix. I like classic silhouettes for dresses, but I also love a long skirt and tops with some asymmetry. I am a fan of bohemian trends like high waisted jeans and 70's style glam. I can't pull off loud prints, but I love layers and usually wear a cardigan or jacket over most of my outfits. For shoes I am pretty conservative and don't like trendy designs. Ironically, I don't wear a lot of jewelry--usually gold hoops and a long necklace.
Who famous or not inspires you to create?
This is a great question. I usually don't get inspired to create by just one person. I am most inspired to create by the changing seasons and the material I find in my travels. For instance, back in January I found a bunch of loose coral in L.A. I made them into pendants with a long chain. I do watch and get inspired by collective images I see on the web or in favorite fashion mags (Vogue/Harpers Bizarre/In Style etc)

Happy Mother's Day!
I wanted to profile individuals that keep us creative and keep us feeling sexy. There are so many awe-inspiring people in RVA, Kristy Santelli is one of them. Her beautiful contradiction came to life...
drift riot
"wherever you drift may you riot"
I sat down for some Q&A action to discuss this artist's craft and love
Kristy Santelli in Pink jacquard Tibi Dress
What inspired drift riot jewelry?
drift riot was inspired from the need to work with my hands and have a creative outlet. I've always been drawn to working with craft materials and am really into functional art.
What is the story behind the name?
Well, really I liked it because it didn't make sense, and because it was a contradiction. Drift comes from the idea that I have kind of drifted my entire life. I grew up moving around and am inspired by the people and the places I have encountered. Riot just stuck!
What is your favorite thing about Richmond?
I love RVA! It took me awhile to adjust after moving from Brooklyn, kind of a reverse culture shock, but after I finished my Master's degree I was able to enjoy the city. What I love most is the emphasis on the arts. We have one of the best art schools in the country (VCU) and the city is really evolving. It's cool to see a city grow and be apart of that growth. I also love Richmond's music + festival scene - there is always something going on.
You're sexy Kristy... what makes you feel sexy?
I feel sexy when I'm comfortable. That doesn't mean sweatshirt and jeans but comfortable in my own skin - which means wearing clothes that work for me. But honestly I think confidence is the sexiest thing a girl can have.
What is your fav tool of the trade?
It's a toss up between the hammer and the torch. On one hand I get to play with fire, on the other, there is something to be said about hammering metal - just feels good! I pretty much make every piece and solder in my studio at home. I'm not going to lie I was a little scared to set-up at first, I didn't want to set the apartment on fire. But then my boyfriend got a hold of it (the torch) and just started melting things! He showed me how far I could go.
What are your Spring/Summer essentials?
OVERALLS- even though I don't have a pair yet I'm on the hunt! It gets pretty hot in RVA so easy dresses are a must. My latest obsession is with my new Melissa jellies I bought at PINK. They will be an every day item for sure!
What is the best style advice you have ever received?
Dress for your body + accentuate what you have! "Rock it if you got it!"

This past Saturday night, many of our customers and friends attended a gala supporting an amazing cause, Comfort Zone Camp. CZC is the largest bereavement camp for children who have lost a parent, sibling or primary caregiver. More information about this safe haven for grieving children can be found here: www.comfortzonecamp.org
On left: Tracy is wearing a color blocked pencil shift from Velvet. On right: Jennifer is wearing a contemporary graphic, silk dress from Troubadour. Both dresses available at Pink 804-358-0884
We at Pink make it a priority to stay on the cusp of the next big trend in fashion. Part of doing that is keeping an eye and ear out for new designers and fresh brands. This spring we are excited to add two new designers to the sales floor: Troubadour and Erin Fetherston. Read on for more details!
Troubadour was launched Spring 2010 to abundant praise by the fashion industry. Designer Lindsey Carter was deemed a "designer to watch". And that's exactly what we are doing at Pink! Inspired by the sea, the south and the city, the pieces are feminine with refined silhouettes but have unique prints that make the garmets bold. We love this top paired with jeans or shorts in the summer- it's cotton, so very breathable for when the heat hits!
This dress is certainly one-of-a-kind! The side panel print and minor peplum detail add subtle touches of trends but the silhouette remains classic. Perfect for a luncheon or graduation party, it's a piece that will surely strike up a conversation!
The dress pictured below is one of our absolute favorites! The color is stunning, and the hemline is flirty while the body of the dress is timeless. The best part? The back! Right on trend with cut-out details, this dress delivers just that from behind- all while still being bra friendly! We think it's genius.
This dress is a perfect example of how designer Lindsey Carter integrates modern prints into classic shapes. The collar on this dress gives it a preppy feel while the print keeps the look fun and laid back. Dress this one up for a formal spring function or layer under a jacket as seen! We love mixing prints, but don't worry- if that's not your thing, the jacket and the dress are great as separates!
The blush colored fabric on this dress is dreamy mixed with white paneling. This dress exudes class and sophistication but at the same time it's modern. The detail in the handwork gives it a rich feel with effortless style. And we love it paired with the jacket pictured below! The jacket is a combination of clean lines and subtle details like the hook and eye closures down the front and fabulous pleating on the back. A great update to a work suit, this jacket is fashion forward and adds a little edge to the overall look. While these pieces are great together, they can definitely stand on their own as separates in your closet!
Next up, Erin Fetherston is no novice to the fashion world, but she is new to us this spring and we are happy to have her hanging amongst our racks!Born in San Francisco, Erin Fetherston has been presenting her collections since 2005. Her RTW line 'ERIN' was born in 2011 and has received praises across the fashion board. Fetherston's collection is flirty, feminine and whimsical all while remaining sensible. We are simply obsessed with this dip-dyed flirty frock- what is not to love? It's the perfect dress for a formal spring/summer occassion. The color transforms into the most magnificent shades of blue, while the silhouette remains classic and easy to wear for almost anyone.
Show stopper alert!!! The dress above really does not need an introduction- it speaks for itself! The neckline of this dress is flirty while the shape maintains a classic feel. The peplum detail is right on trend but is designed not to overwhelm the silhouette. What's not to love about this timeless piece?
Last but not least, the dress below is the perfect balance between tradition and trend: the ponte fabric, mesh neckline detail and exposed zipper all make it current while the shape gives a hint of a traditional silhouette. It's a buy-now-wear-now kind of piece but we also see it into Fall/Holiday with black tights! All in all, this dress offers versatility and style!

Spring is just around the corner and it's no more evident than in Pink with new arrivals daily! Here are some of this week's top picks:
SW3 is a London born line whose founders originally drew their inspiration from the swinging 60s and 70s. They took that influence and combined it with their experience in design and tailoring to create a sportswear line that maintains a sexy, chic, boho undertone. This dress is a perfect example of SW3's boho chic style- the cut-out shoulder keeps it on trend but still offers coverage. The print elongates the body and highlights the legs! This look can be worn dressy with a pair of neutral heels or casual with a pair of flats or boots! Add a statement necklace to complete the look and you are ready for any occasion.
These printed silk pants are right on trend for spring- and best of all they are comfortable! Deep purple, gold, yellow and burnt orange are just a few of the colors that make up this gorgeous print, so to accentuate the pants, pair them with a solid color up top. Dress them up for a night on the town with a pair of wedges and a silky tank, or keep it casual for work with flat sandals, a cotton t-shirt and a blazer. These pants exude versatility and style, two of our favorite things!
Ulla Johnson, who was born and raised in NYC, designs clothes to empower and inspire women. Feminine silouhettes paired with bold colors and luxurious fabrics have cultivated a global fashion following- Pink included! We love the richness of the cobalt color and the flirty, feminine designs of these two pieces for spring. Pair the blouse with almost any pair of jeans- we love making a statement with these Henry & Belle grass green skinny jeans!
We envision the Pink girl wearing this dress on multiple occasions: to a spring wedding, out to dinner with friends or to a cocktail party! It makes a statement without having to try-we love effortless style! It's silky and sophisticated. Add a statement necklace to make it more funky or keep it simple with a pair of earrings. The cobalt is a pop of color that will always be in style and looks great in all four seasons. This dress is definitely one of those timeless pieces that will forever stay in your closet!
Tucker by Gaby Basora is by far one of the most eclectic lines out there- it's spontaneous yet put together. Like the New York City, where the designer is from, the line is full of exciting contradictions: bold and feminine, tailored and flowy, solid and printed. The line launched in 2005 with Gaby Basora's signature Tucker blouse and has since grown into a full, ready to wear collection. This blouse was immediately one of our favorites- the simple multi-colored polka dot print makes it fun while the fit keeps it sophisticated. Style it under a blazer or tucked into a high-waisted skirt for work, or keep it low-key with a pair of jeans. Any way you wear this unique blouse will make a statement!
This dress is full of excitement! Animal prints have been around for years so it's important for designers to constantly reinvent- otherwise we would all own the same leopard print top! And Tucker does just that with this simple shift dress. The animal print still keeps it on trend, but the splashes of color throughout the design make it unique and fresh. Wear this to any occasion- with heels to a wedding or cocktail party, or with tights and boots right now! The sleeve gives it versatility to wear throughout the seasons- a great reason to have it hanging in your closet!

Back to Basics take 2!!! This is an essential! Colors are still in fashion this Spring, finding your color is key. Typically colored denim is a little bit thicker in weight then white denim. I feel like if you can't find a white denim thats flattering, try some vibrant colors. This always puts a little "pep" in my step to brighten up a dismal day. I love pairing a print that compliments your color choice or color blocking! Any of these options pictured are fantastic alternatives!! I hope if you have any hesitation to wear color, DON'T just rock it. Call us we can talk you through it:) 804.358.0884

Ok, even though we are a specialty store we like to still think we can wardrobe a girl completely. Here is a perfect example of seem-less tailoring in a blouse. This Tibi Black silk blouse has the perfect combo of sassy with a modern shape. I hope everyone has this "easy top" in their wardrobe. This week we will take you on an adventure through the basics and what to pair with each item. This one was fairly straight forward while pairing. I wanted to keep the proportions correct so I chose a much more fitted skirt so the blouse can lay naturally over the skirt. Also these flats are something every girl should have. Easy to pack, easy to wear and I'm going to say it.... comfortable!!!
